Indonesia is a country that located in equator line of the earth.This is a tropic country with many islands and amazing place that always becoming tourist destination from all of the world .
  1. One of the tourist destination that always give a unforgetable experience for the visitors, is BUKITTINGGI city.Now,i'll continued our travel to this city.This cold city is located in Sumatera barat province (one of 33 provinces in Indonesia).From Padang (capital city of Sumatera barat province),we can reach the city with to go through about 98 km trip from Padang (we can also start the trip from minangkabau international airport),it’s about 70 minutes to arrived at BUKITTINGGI city.Bukttinggi city also known as the place of birth of Indonesian proklamator.Bung-Hatta(Who becoming Indonessian first vice president).

So here we are , in Bukittinggi city .

1.Landmark

a. JAM GADANG

If we say something about West Sumatera , we'll remember minangkabau tradition . If we say something about Padang , then we'll also remember about Nasi Padang (you haven’t try it ? Taste more delicious than you've tasted outside West Sumatera) . And if we talk something about Bukittinggi , then we'll remember ...what ? can you guess it guys?

Jam Gadang , or in English we called it Big Clock .

If London in England have a big clock “BIG BEN” , then Bukittinggi also have a big clock called “JAM GADANG” .
Since a long time ago Jam Gadang already becoming a landmark for Bukittinggi city , even not only for Bukittinggi city , but also for West Sumatera province. Since the Dutch colonization age , Jam Gadang that design by an architect named Yazid Sutan Gigi Ameh in 1926 already doing many changed in the roof part . This clock was a gift from the queen of Dutch to Rook Maker.



The unique things from Jam Gadang  :
We know in Roman number for 4 is IV , but in this big clock the number of 4 is written like IIII . That wasn’t right , but this thing have seen many story of Jam Gadang constribution in that age . If you came to visit this city , it wouldn't be complete yet if you haven't visit Jam Gadang .

b. RUMAH GADANG


Actually , Rumah Gadang (big house) is a traditional house from West Sumatera , Indonesia . Rumah gadang is the symbol of Minangkabau tradition . In the kingdom age of Minangkabau tradition , Rumah gadang is the place for the king and his family to get some rest . That’s why this house called Rumah Gadang , because this house is the place for great people.

Rumah Gadang’s roof seems like buffalo horn . Like the name of Minangkabau (Kabau : Buffalo) . In the settle of Rumah Gadang , there are some small house called Rangkiang . This is the place for saving rice and the yields.
the unique of Rumah Gadang :
-The poles of this house are not built with nails . But the poles are plant deep under the ground . In order this house keep it's balance when the earthquake is happening .
-Have steep roof , that make the water will not stay there when the weather is raining . Althought the roof is maked from palm fibre.
-In the down side of Rumah Gadang , there are some pit , to keep good air sirculation for tis house.

2.Tourist destination



(*) Lubang Japang


Japanese Hole


Lubang Japang or Japanese hole is a tunnel . The Japanese army built it around the second world war in Bukittinggi , West Sumatera , Indonesia . It have a length of approximately 1400 m (725 m because it is partially closed in 2004 , 2 m wide and height about 3 m . Meanwhile, to enter and exit the tunnel there are 3 main door and 6 emergency door. There are 3 doors in the main road of Sianok Canyon, in the Panorama Park and on the side of the Bung Hatta Palace ( Triarga Building) .

For now only one door that is used for the public, the doors located in Panorama Park, while the 2 doors and 6 doors emergency were closed . 

In Lubang Japang alley there are some that ramify . Previously, the alleys used for various purposes , such as meeting place, a place to eat, sleep rooms, military barracks and detention space . There are 12 rooms that are used for military barracks ; 12 room for the bed; 6 rooms for ammunition, 2 rooms for food, 1 room for romusha and the room for the hearing . The spaces of any room is still in good condition and can be visited by the tourists until now .
In Lubang Japang , you can find various types of equipment  left by Japanese army , that used to torment the prisoners during the second world war. Equipment is stored in one of the lane that is estimated as a place of torture .



(*) . Sianok Canyon


Ngarai Sianok , (Sianok Gorge) has two hill walls facing each other almost vertically . Its height is about 100 to 120 meters and length around 15 kilometers . These wall curved like a gorge where there are wide rice fields and Sianok river’s bends on its base . This gorge separates Bukittinggi and Mount Singgalang . The scientists concluded that this canyon is apart of fault , which separated of Sumatra Island to be two stretches along a length path ( Watermelon fault ) .


Ngarai Sianok


Sianok Canyon is a favorite beautiful spot for tourists . Sianok Canyon is one of the most impressive sites in West Sumatra , is very very amazing, particularly during sunrise and sunset, and can be best viewed from the Panorama park Bukittinggi or you could also go into the gorge, which is a settlement and paddy field area .
You'll also find them there


If you want to enjoy the beauty of Ngarai Sianok from Panorama Park , you can use the gazebos while watching monkeys playing around in the park . In addition, there is a 20 meter tall tower near souvenir shops where you could see the beauty of Ngarai Sianok clearer. Alternatively, visitors could travel 2 km using private car go down to the base sianok canyon through between the road from Bukittinggi and rice fields.


(*). Fort De Kock  fortress


Fort de Kock Fortress

This fortress are built when the dutch age , and used by dutch army . This fortress is built by Captain Beuer in Jirek Hill ,Bukittinggi at 1825 . There are 4 small cannon in every side of this fortress that built for protect dutch army from minangkabau people attact when Padri war that lead by Tuangku Imam Bonjol happen.

Fort De Kock fortress are located in Wild animals and Kinantan culture Park area . From Wild animals and Kinantan culture Park we can cross to the Fort De Kock fortress with LIMPAPEH bridge,and we also can cross from Fort De Kock fortress to the park free . :)

Kinantan Park
We not only can see the wild animals in this zoo , but we can also see and learn about minangkabau culture , and try some  Minangkabau traditional outfits .
We can also enjoy the facilities in the zoo , like The animal museum , and Playground area . Also we can  cross the LIMPAPEH BRIDGE to the FORT DE KOCK fortress free.

This is the place who Indonesian Proklamator was born . He is Indonesian first vice president.

This house give us interesting information about BUNG HATTA (Drs.Mohd.Hatta) . Besides ,we can get in this house free . This house is located in downer market (Pasar Bawah) , Bukittinggi.




3.Souvenir

If we talk about souvenir , Upper market will give you whatever you need and whatever you want with cheap price and easy way.


Pasa Ateh / Pasar Atas



Not only clothes , accessories , and many other things . You can also get Bukittinggi traditional snacks . It’s Karupuak Sanjai or Sanjai chips in along of the street when you leave Bukittinggi.




So…this is my town…A small , peace and lovely town that will give you an unforgetable experience .
